Moving from peripheral to core
Revit 2027 marks a significant shift in Autodesk’s approach to AI, moving it from a peripheral tool to a core component of the modeling environment. The headline feature is the Autodesk Assistant, a built-in AI 'copilot' accessible via a dedicated panel inside the Revit interface.
Natural Language Interaction & MCP
Users can now interact with their models using plain language to ask questions, perform analyses, or trigger modeling actions. Crucially, Revit 2027 is built upon the Model Context Protocol (MCP). By implementing an MCP server, Revit is no longer a 'closed box.' It allows external AI tools and agents to securely query and interact with live BIM model data.
The Verdict
While it excels at simpler, repetitive tasks like creating sheets or querying model data, it still has limitations regarding complex modeling or high-stakes, multi-step actions. However, it's a foundational step towards an 'agentic' future in BIM coordination.
